Finally a personal piece.

A dragon rider with her dragon comrade, preparing for the race and battles up ahead.
Always wanted to paint something cool and fantasy, with dragons. haha. Here is my first attempt.
Hope you like it.
Still going with values.
Painted a dude for a change.
Its interesting to see how much you can get away with a guy when rendering the skin.
There are less subtle changes due to the muscle forms, but it is also because of it that there is so much to take care of. =.=
Not entirely satisfied with this. But my patience with a dude is limited
.
Will attempt another one soon i guess.

Still going with the value studies.
Trying to learn something with less dramatic lighting. It’s extremely hard for me to paint all the subtle tone variations.
They look simple, but it took tons minor tweaking to get it right. Yet I am still not 100% satisfied with it. Should practice more on this area.

Alright. Onward to the next!!
A tonal study of Bernini’s Sculpture: The Ecstasy of Saint Therese.
Looking back at my paintings, I think I was too impatient and jump too many steps, trying too fast to produce a complete illustration.
It causes me to pick up some bad habits in rendering and I realized that my fundamentals are still lacking. I know the theories, but sadly not too much about applying them.
So, to solve it, I will be doing some throw back practice. Back to tonal, learning to render forms etc. This time, I will make sure I dont get impatient and really internalize all the knowledge I learnt so far.
So here is a study of a sculpture. Hope you like it.
A new portrait study of Hermione Granger (Emma Watson)..
Feel a little weird to say that I painted Emma Watson since she is all grown up now. Plus, its from a screen shot of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone anyway.
Got to say, their acting in the first movie are really decent. It’s no wonder that the movie got famous. Not a lot of book adaptation involving young actors did well these days.
Oh well, I started this painting as I would like to expand to painting a bigger age group in characters. So get ready for more kids studies.
It feels great to be painting again. Will try to keep a more frequent update.. ![]()
